What is Place the Keycaps?
Place the Keycaps! is a sorting game created by the Roblox group KEYBOARDS!!!!!. It launched on June 24, 2026, and in mid-July 2026 it broke into Roblox's Up-and-Coming chart with thousands of concurrent players. The current version carries the [SOUNDS!] tag — the latest beta update, which leans into the mechanical-keyboard sound fantasy the game is built around.
The concept fits in one sentence, straight from the developers: sort a pile of keycaps to complete your keyboard collection. You grab loose keycaps, figure out where each one belongs, and place it on the board. Filling the whole layout — every letter, number and modifier in its right spot — is the core goal, and finishing it all earns the game's only badge, Sorted All Keycaps, which tens of thousands of players have already unlocked.
If that sounds simple: it is, on purpose. The game belongs to the same wave of low-stress, oddly-satisfying Roblox games as Pack an Order! and the wider keycap family (Collect a Keycap!, Spin A Keycap!). The hook isn't difficulty — it's the tactile loop of picking, matching and clicking keycaps into place, now with proper keyboard sounds.

How the game works in 30 seconds
- Join a server — you spawn in with a keyboard to complete and a pile of loose keycaps.
- Sort the pile — pick up keycaps, read their legends (the printed letter or symbol), and place each one on its matching slot. Press Q to throw a keycap you don't need in hand, and CTRL to unlock your mouse.
- Complete the collection — fill every slot on the board. Sorting every keycap earns the Sorted All Keycaps badge.

Part of the keycap game wave
Place the Keycaps! is the newest hit in a small but fast-growing Roblox niche built around keyboards. Collect a Keycap! (a different developer) proved the appetite with over 8 million visits since late 2025; Spin A Keycap! followed. Place the Keycaps! takes the same subject in a calmer direction — no farming or rebirth grind, just the sorting itself. And the KEYBOARDS!!!!! group already has a second project registered, Build a Keyboard!, which hasn't opened to the public yet — we're tracking it on the updates page.
Quick FAQ
Does Place the Keycaps have codes?
No. As of July 14, 2026 there is no code-redeem system in the game, so any site listing "working codes" is guessing. If the developers add one, our FAQ will be updated the same day.
Is Place the Keycaps free?
Yes — free to play on Roblox, with no paid game passes listed as of mid-July 2026.
Why does the title say [SOUNDS!]?
Roblox games often put their latest update in brackets before the name. [SOUNDS!] is the current beta update — see the update log.
